54 Seconds - How I Roll

Dug this one up out of the vaults earlier tonight. I don’t think I’ve heard it since 2007-ish. Wowsers.

Anybody remember 54 Seconds? I think the frontman is/was the son of a Bee Gee, but I don’t remember which one.

Also I guess I’m on a jangly-quarter-note-piano kick lately, huh?

Ryan Adams - New York, New York (Solo piano)

Think about rock and roll, from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean, from the years of roughly 1965 to 1977 with piano in them. The piano line from The Stones’ Monkey Man? Clapton’s Let It Rain? Every piano note on The Who’s first album My Generation? Quicksilver Messenger Service’s Edward The Mad Shirt Grinder? The Airplane at Woodstock? Volunteers?
I could go on. The list of credits that Nicky played on is extensive and exhaustive. He’s one of those players, (like Bruce Hornsby and Randy Newman) who are immediately identifiable. You know when Nicky laid down a piano track. The man was a genius.

Rhapsody in Blue (for solo piano) — George Gershwin

Always a good call. Gershwin in the morning is a wonderful thing. Really, Gershwin anytime is a wonderful thing.

Street piano arrives in Astor Place for Sing for Hope’s ‘Play Me, I’m Yours’ summer public art event (today, June 21st through July 5th.)
Pianos were delivered today throughout NY. More info? Calendar and map included here.

I was thrilled to see this on my way to Delia’s this morning. Definitely going to spice up my morning commute. Too bad I can only play the right hand of Fur Elise and the Mickey Mouse Club Theme Song.

My dad emailed me about these today and as I was walking to the train after work someone was playing the one in McCarren Park. It was lovely.

We found the one in the Chelsea Market this afternoon. It was awesome. The security guard there was thrilled to have people stop by who actually knew how to play!!

Oh Yoko! - John Lennon

We’re big fans of this tune here in 1025. We like to think we’re pretty eclectic.

Also, Nicky Hopkins’ piano is, as always, beautiful. Like Bruce Hornsby, Roy Bittan, or Joe Jackson, his fingers sound like no one else.
