Jerry Garcia—“Sugaree”
Garcia (Warner 1972).
“Please forget you knew my name…”
Most Deadheads are all about the jams. Which is cool, don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a twenty minute long version of Sugaree too, but there’s something to be said for the clarity and conciseness of a (comparatively) short studio cut that clocks in at 5:54.

Greatest Story Ever Told - Bob Weir
Sure, Ace is supposedly a Bob Weir solo album, but the only member of The Dead that isn’t on it is Pigpen. That said, the studio version of Greatest Story rocks.
Steely Dan - Reelin’ In The Years
On a recent car trip, I realized that, even though I was driving my dad’s car, there were no Steely Dan CDs in it because he had taken them out (for himself). I fixed this by making the frequent and favorite stop at the local record exchange. I know my favorite Steely Dan songs and love each album on its own, but I decided to go for the 2006 collection, to get the best bang for my buck. “The Definitive Collection” gives 16 of (what they think) are the most popular/best/whoknows and was produced/remastered by Becker and Fagen.
My favorite thing about buying the physical album, whether vinyl or compact disc, is having the statistics: date produced, who wrote it, who plays in it, etc. If there was a way for iTunes to add this, it would be golden. But until then, I will still buy hard copies.
Truth.
Roommate’s watching some Liam Neeson movie in which someone’s got this as their ringtone. We all decided that it was pretty cool.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, the Grrrrrrateful Dead!”
1972 Dead is some of the best Dead. This is some of the best 1972 Dead. I dare you to try not to bop your head along with this one.
Heads up for Jerry’s solo. He soars in outta nowhere and blows it out of the water.

Jerry, Merle, John & Bill in ‘72, covering my favorite Stevie Wonder song? Yes please.
Oh man, this is great.

KEITH RICHARDS - Happy (1972)
Hey, Mick. Who sings this song? Keith? Really? Let’s keep it that way.
Letterhead used by the band in 1972, the year of their Western European tour. Featuring the ‘Rainbow Foot’ logo, designed by Stanley Mouse and also seen on the front cover of the Europe ‘72 album.

The late, great Lowell George in his element. This is my favorite Feat song.
Easy To Slip, by Little Feat. Off their 1972 album Sailin’ Shoes. That album also features my second-favorite Little Feat tune, Willin’, which has Sneaky Pete Kleinow on it, who was for a time the best pedal steel player in the world.
Everyone should own a copy of this album.
The Rolling Stones, rehearsing for their 1973 European Tour at the Rialto Theatre in Montreaux, Switzerland. This is the second take or the song that was recorded. Billy Preston is playing keyboards.
