Jessie’s Girl
From the album Working Class Dog
Rick Springfield, RCA Records/USA (1981)I wanna tell her that I love her,
But the point is probably mootI think we all need this.
Okay, time for another flashback to years ago: in college I had a real-life “Jessie’s Girl” moment. Head over heels for a girl (who, as she had these you’d-swear-were-enhanced-by-color-contacts-but-weren’t green eyes, could certainly be described as having “those eyes”) who was dating a guy named Jessie. Though the big differences were: Jessie wasn’t a friend (but she was, so nothing happened), and one drunken night I realized I didn’t want my life to be a Rick Springfield song.
Two things:
- I’ve always thought that was a real “Ahead of its Time” album cover
- I love this song.
Let’s also not forget how apropos and brilliant it is when this song plays in Boogie Nights.
Ok, but now I can’t not think of the third season of Californication.
